Letter from the President

Sunflower Chapter Members and Visitors,

The Chapter Board of Directors is looking forward to working with you this year.

As we start a new decade, we are nearing a milestone as the Chapter is nearing its 30th Anniversary. I am honored to lead this chapter as we continue to offer our popular Roundtable Sessions and a Fall conference and find new ways to provide young and longtime professionals the information and resources they need to excel at their jobs.

Safety, one of our biggest challenges, continues to be a primary focus. We all need take the time to be safe. I don’t know anyone that wants to take unnecessary risks at work. As an industry, we can find ourselves alone without anyone else to watch out for potential dangers or talk about how to make a situation safe. What can be done? Many times, we push forward because we must get the job done and no one else is going to do it for us. That is when we need to take the time to step back and really focus on safety.

Do we need to take the time to get the right tools and personnel to do the job and get home safely or take our chances? Our goal is to have every solid waste person in Kansas to make it home every day. Each of you is valuable to our communities.  Kansas SWANA is here to help everyone be safe.

The Eastern Roundtable coming up on March 4 in Olathe, KS, Go to the Events page for more details and RSVP information.

We hope to see you soon.

Regards,

Craig Wood, Chapter President
